The Perhonjokilaakso Open College provides a great number of various courses and activities to the people of different ages living in the area of the following four municipalities: Halsua, Kaustinen, Perho and Veteli. The municipality of Veteli administers the Open College shared by all the four municipalities, thus the office of the college lies in Veteli.

Most of the courses are organized in the evening and take place mainly in school buildings of the area, but some of the courses are held in properties of various organisations, for example Youth Associations.

The Perhonjokilaakso Open College provides about 7000 lessons and has as average of 3100 participants a year.We aim at comprehensively meeting the variable educational needs of the inhabitants and the society. The local folklore with its old traditions of folk music and handicrafts shows in the curriculum of the college: there are courses for example in weaving, knitting, patchwork, playing the piano, the violin, the kantele, Finnish folk dance, etc.

The crafts presented in this project are silver jewelry, straw mobiles (the himmeli), glass-melting, instrument-building (the kantele), fransut (sort of local lace-making) and patchwork.
